Betina’s day of traditional shell fishing “Dan Brganje”
Dan Brganje is a famous festivity in Betina in honour of the special type of shellfish, which has long been hunted in the Betina channel with a special tool for which the festivity was named. On the evening of the festivity, savour the freshly prepared shellfish and local wine with songs and a typical summer atmosphere. Dan Brganje is one of the oldest festivities on the Adriatic, and by far the oldest in the Šibenik region with a tradition spanning over forty years. As hunting for shellfish has been banned in recent times, the festivity today is held in the honour of these delicious shellfish and their preparation. Dan Brganje is always held on the first Sunday in August with the presentation of the tools and the preparation of shellfish. Guests can enjoy a concert of one of the more popular Croatian performers and a fireworks display at midnight. In the afternoon hours of the same day for the past several years, a women’s regatta “Palm and Paddle” is hosted, which should also not be missed.
